App design will include a profile page with the information listed below. There will also be a map of Afghanistan & Iraq displaying where the veteran served and whereo ther veterans on-line at the time have served. The maps below just have my picture with a line indicating the places I was deployed to in each country. Imagine with 10 o 20 people on, the map will be full of pictures. Very powerful for a veteran to log on and see his how many of his brother and sister veterans are on-line and have served with him.
Profile Information:
OK...On these maps: Which style do we like better? The afghanistan style seems hard to read to me. I can't easily see the provinces. The iraq one is more simplistic.
SO once they click on the province, does it just zoom in to the province (like zooming in on a picture) or does it change to a larger picture of just the province? or does it pop them right to the communicate area for that region? I was thinking it changed to the larger picture of just the province with "tiks" on it representing the people who served in the various spots in the province, or maybe just a list of people who are online.
Jonathan mentioned the communicate part to be like our Malt Facebook group. Maybe each province would be their own group, and clicking on the map takes you to the group area. Yes?!? That makes sense. Am I close?? :)

Design questions:
(Trey) - What type of app will this be (phone, computer, web based, stand alone)? How will the individuals connect? (email, groups, chat, forums, "wall", video hangout), How will they tell their stories? (Voicethread, video, blog, forums) Maybe the app would also sponsor "connection events" around the country that would allow individuals to come together and stories could be recorded there on site (for those who don't have the resources to contribute on their own). Would there be a way to have them connect with the unit that they served with as well? Would their be a social planning area as well for planning get togethers etc. in their local communities? How will the app be organized? How many different areas do we want to include? How will we make it easier for veterans to join and use the app? Will there be a search function so they can locate others that they encountered while abroad and then reconnect with them?

Clark,
I agree with your assessment on security of this APP. I also do not like the Facebook or Twitter sign –in. I think this needs to be kept separate from social media sites. As I mentioned before this should be controlled by the VA and Military Medical Community or regular medical community if we market to a civilian firm.
I like the chat buttons and the video page with the ability to leave comments. However those videos are on You Tube and the comments are out in the open. I am not sure if that is a closed channel because I could not find it on a regular You Tube search. I might have missed it.

I like the ‘Find Support” page but think the “Get support right now” button should be more than giving the veteran phone numbers. Would like to see live chat with a professional. That will depend on resources available, meaning if mental health professionals are available to be on call for this. But if they can monitor a phone I think they can monitor this also. Just my $.02.

Security was a problem with this App as well.
It was also for people other than veterans who suffered from PTSD. As I mentioned before, our APP can be modified for any population of that had traumatic experiences and ae dealing with PTSD but I think they should be kept separate for this App.
